2006 – “Let’s open a restaurant, cook the food that we love to eat and serve wine that we love to drink”

Seventeen years on and that is still what we do. Gavin Aitkenhead has cooked every meal that has left his kitchen while I, Samantha Tomkins look after the guests in the restaurant, choosing the wines and ensuring a smooth service. We have an ever-growing and changing team who bring with them new ideas and help create a dining experience that brings you back again and again.

MEET THE TEAM

Gavin Aitkenhead – Director and Head Chef

Gavin’s philosophy on food is simple: “My aim as a chef is first and foremost about flavour, then we can get to work on the right balance of textures and cooking techniques. I am passionate about using the best suppliers whether a simple salad or a beautiful saddle of lamb.”

Samantha Tomkins – Director, Restaurant and Wine Manager

Samantha started in a teaching career but soon realised her passion was in food and wine. In the summer of 2006 she took the decision to join up with Gavin and take on The Jews House, since then she has never looked back.

Bailey Starbuck – Chef di Partie

Bailey started with us nearly three years ago to train to become a chef. Completing his apprenticeship, he will step into Chef di Partie’s shoes. Bailey won the 2022 Appreciaticate service sector award by showing his enthusiasm, hard work, one to always make us laugh attitude. Working closely with Gavin to create dishes and run the kitchen.  One for a bright future.
