Gavin Aitkenhead

Gavin began his career in one of Lincoln’s most established restaurants, taught by head chef at the time Paul Vidic.

Gavin continued to develop his passion and desire as a chef which saw him move to the notable 2 Michelin starred restaurant of Winteringham fields in 1998. He spent 5 years under the watchful eye of the hugely acclaimed Germain Schwab working his way to the position of Head Chef.

At this point Gavin was keen to head his own kitchen and moved to the restaurant Rish in York. While here he received 6/10 in the good food guide and was commended.

Wishing to return to his home town Gavin jumped at the chance of taking over the Jews House and opened in August 2006.

This brings us to the present where Gavin continues to receive rave reviews, positive and enthusiastic feedback from regular diners. Continually evolving, Gavin finds inspiration from across the globe, mainly focusing on traditional British and modern cuisine.

"My aim as a chef is first and foremost about flavour, then we can get to work on the right balance of textures and cooking techniques."

"I am passionate about using the best suppliers whether a simple salad or a beautiful saddle of lamb."

"With British produce evolving in many ways it’s important to get the combinations right and not over working a dish, I hope we succeed!"
